PORT JERVIS – Voters approved the operating budget for the Port Jervis Free Library on Thursday, June 8 that increases the library tax levy by 1.26%. The official tally showed that the budget was approved by a vote of 180 to 37, according to Library Director Beverly Arlequeeuw. Newly-elected trustee, Carl Hendrick will serve a five-year term.
The tax appropriation for the 2017/18 library budget is set at $1,011,350 or $12,580 more than the current year’s levy. Arlequeeuw said that she was “deeply grateful” for the community support, which validates that the library is still a vital part of the community. The library trustees and staff continue to work hard to be worthy of the support of the community and this response will aid in that endeavor.
Arlequeeuw encourages all members in the Port Jervis community to visit the library and discover all of the wonderful services, programs and materials available to them. Our library is so much more than just books.
The Port Jervis Free Library is located at 138 Pike Street and serves the residents in the Port Jervis City School District.
