TMR Scout Museum will open, Sunday, July 9
Our latest exhibit will discuss monarch butterflies
Narrowsburg, N.Y. (July 5, 2023) — The Ten Mile River Scout Museum, located on the grounds of Ten Mile River Scout Camps’ headquarters, 1481 County Road 26, Narrowsburg, N.Y. will open for the summer season beginning Sunday, July 9.
The Museum will be open the following hours. Museum personnel will be there to answer visitors’ questions.
- Sunday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Our newest exhibit is “Monarch Butterflies.” Monarchs are the masters of migration, traveling up to 3000 miles every year from North America to Mexico and back. Some of these colorful and amazing insects can be found on the milkweed plants around TMR. There is also a new exhibit on Ernest Thompson Seton, one of the founders of the Boy Scouts of America.
The following free events are scheduled. All evening history talks will be led by Co-Director Glenn Pontier and will begin at 7 p.m. ET. They will be held in the open-air Karl Bernstein Cayuga/Kotohke cabin at the TMR Museum. All events are open to scouts and the general public. Follow our social media feeds for any changes.
- Tuesday, July 11 – Evening History Talk – “The Original People” – The Lenape used these mountains to hunt, fish, trade with the Mohawks and teach their children.
- Tuesday, July 18- Evening History Talk – “Local Ghost Stories” – From murder on the Stone Arch Bridge to tales by Stephen Crane, legends abound.
- Tuesday, July 25 – Evening History Talk – “Tales of the Raftsmen” – Stories the lumbermen and rafters told themselves, including “How the Ten Mile River Got Its Name.”
- Sat. and Sun., July 29 & 30 – Sullivan County Museum Weekend at TMR Museum – Regular museum hours
- Tuesday, August 1 – Evening History Talk – “Monarchs at TMR” – Amazing insects that live on milkweed plants in Ten Mile River and travel to Mexico in the fall, returning each spring.
- Saturday, August 5, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m – TMR Museum Car Show at Headquarters Camp – People are welcome to register their classic car for $10.
- Evening History Talk – Tuesday, August 8 – “The Original People” – The Lenape used these mountains to hunt, fish, trade with the Mohawks and teach their children.

The Ten Mile River Scout Museum exists to preserve and promote the spirit and heritage of New York City Scouting at the Ten Mile River Scout Camps and selected venues through the creation of historical archives, displays, exhibits of photos, memorabilia, documents and tangible items in both indoor and outdoor settings. We also recognize the local history in the vicinity of the Ten Mile River Scout Camps.
